How to describe myself best? Well, some guy once said: 'Ridicule is the tribute paid to the genius by the mediocrities.' Now I'm not going to declare myself a genius, but I do get a lot of ridicule from mediocre people. So all things added up, that must mean… Okay, but in all seriousness, something about myself: Besides my work for Breaking Ground, I’m an MA student at Utrecht University, where I’m currently working to get my degree in Film- and Television Studies. That, of course, must mean that movies are kind of my thing. Which is completely true; they are. And in that way, working at Breaking Ground is a very grateful experience; doing something for your fellow film(maker) student(s), to ensure that the future cinematic landscape will be a mediocre-free zone. That just leaves us with a new way of finding out who the geniuses are.

Wile E.

A girl and boy on separate sides of the world (NY & Amsterdam) both lead fantastical lives but are incapable of meeting. It's loosely based on a Wile E. Coyote and Roadrunner sketch (a cartoon hyperreal parable).

It's made using my own technique of projecting onto paper and then cutting out portions of the film to illustrate the hyperreal mediums that skew our vision. - Christopher Holloran

Tegels (Tiles)

The hidden movements and melodies of street tiles. Tiles is an animation made of a large photographic collection of street tiles. By viewing this collection of photographs as a sequence, different movements and processes become visible within the frame of the tiles. Both music and animation are trying to find a balance between a thought-out arrangement and an arrangement of chance
