Breaking Shorts

In Breaking Ground's new season of 2012/2013 it is yet again time for a new student competition co-organized by the Go Short International Short Film Festival in Nijmegen and BG.
In the past years we have seen some very interesting, motivational and beautiful student short films that were selected for the Breaking Shorts competition. Those young talent compete for the Dioraphte Encouragement Award, stimulating the young talents to keep on making masterpieces and becoming the next generation of famous and important filmmakers of Europe.

The dates of the festival were: March 13-17, 2013

Here you will find all selected films of that year.

The winner of the 2013 Dioraphte Encouragement Award of € 5000 is:

Endless Day by Anna Frances Ewert!

We are so happy for Anna as this is her 2nd year film project at the Hochschule für Film und Fernsehen, München! The happiness was also visible in Anna's face who, unfortunately, couldn't be there in person but did send a very nice video expressing her thanks and true astonishment.

The jury report:

"A refreshingly simple and confidently crafted portrait of a condition we all experience to some degree in our lives. The marriage of striking visual compositions with the intimate observations of a sleep deprived narrator, make a compelling tale on the nature of insomnia."

The jury expressed it's appreciation for another student film in the Breaking Shorts competition at the Go Short Int. Short Film Festival. The special mention this year went to:

Magnesium by Sam de Jong

"The jury was taken by the plight of the central character, brutal camera, sound and edit. We felt every beat of the character's heart, the film captivated us from the very beginning until the very end."

We congratulate these two young talented filmmakers and hope to be seeing more of them in the future!

Also a big round of applause and thank you to all the other 18 filmmakers and their films of this years student competition at Go Short. We had a very good selection of the best of Europes student films and we will be definitely seeing you around!

We have selected the top of the notch of European student films and hope to enlighten you with these refreshing and young film talents which can be seen in 5 different programmes during the Go Short film festival.
