Breaking Shorts

Breaking Shorts 2009 (18-22 March)

Breaking Shorts is the student competition for Go Short international short film festival, Nijmegen. Breaking Ground selected the 20 European student films for this first edition of the festival.

In 2009, the jury consisted of: Hans de Wolf, Erik van Drunen and Helen Zwaan.

Das Mädchen mit den Gelben Strümpfen (The Girl with the Yellow Stockings) by Gregorz Muskala (dir.) and Sol Bondy (prod.) won the Go Short award for best student film (€750)

[From the jury rapport:]A beautiful and truly short film which intrigues and agitates. The intangible is cinematographically caught and wound up in a tight six minute scheme. The camera penetrates underneath the skin of the protagonists from whom we really want to understand the motivations.”

Also nominated were:

Volgens de Vogels by Linde Faas

[From the jury rapport:] “The poetic reflections of a true observer translated into a meticulous animation with attention for detail. The director catches silence in a highly personal style, breathing nature.”

Under Construction by Zhenchen Liu

[From the jury rapport:] “A chafing sketch of actual events in China in the hybrid form of an experimental documentary. Personal stories impactful disrupt the portraying camera of a city in decay. A film with a necessary voice.”
