Siku Moja: Buena Vista Social Club in Congo-style

On January 2th Holland Doc and Breaking Ground presented the cheerful film Siku Moja. The Original Bracka Music Band can be seen as the Congolese version of the Buena Vista Social Club.

Documentary maker Greet Habraken travelled to Kinshasa, Congo during her studies at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Ghent. There she filmed The Original Bracka Music Band for her catchy short documentary Siku Moja. Years ago this band became famous in Congo, but still two of the members pass on their work to the younger generation. Kewe Kakudji and Jagga Monga Kabongo practice almost daily with young dancers and singers. Now in their seventies, they are planning to come to Europe, to inspire new generations with their mix of American blues, South-African gospel and Congolese rythms.
