Breaking Ground (BG) is a platform for European student filmmakers. Our goal is to give new talent the chance to present themselves and their work to the public and the film industry. As a platform, we take every opportunity to present European Student film. So, Breaking Ground pops up everywhere, when you expect it, or, when you don't.

Online community: a meeting point

Breaking Ground offers an online community for young filmmakers; a platform to connect with one another to create a network of buzzing creativity and to exchange know-how, interesting contacts and of course a love for film. Breaking Ground is a true meeting point. Please take a look and set up your personal profile in the filmmaker part of our website. Or present your film at the 'films' page to create a maximum of attention for your masterpiece. And of course this is also the place to submit your film!

Breaking Ground NL

Breaking Ground NL (BG NL) is a two-monthly platform for Dutch and Flemish (and occasional foreign) film students to present themselves and their work and to meet with others to start future collaborations. Every month another film industry professional shares the ins and outs of the business and discusses the films showed during the event. Afterwards, we move to the bar for fun and networking. With a programme of the best Dutch student films and the film makers present, BG NL offers a place to see great films and meet the new talent.

Breaking Ground Festival

The Breaking Ground Festival will screen the best of European student films, off course, but there's more! A competition for the best works, debates, lectures and master classes by European filmmakers, networking and speed-dating with colleagues and professionals, student films in student rooms, music videos accompanied by the bands playing their music. And, last but not least: parties, drinks and dancing!

Extra Events

We 'infiltrate' other festivals and organisations that don't have a program of student films, with the best European student works, interesting workshops, a complete campus or creative guerrilla actions. For more details about all the projects, go to 'extra projects'.

Get connected to the film industry

Breaking Ground is not only here to connect film student among each other and the new talent to the public, but BG also thinks it's important to present the future of European filmmaking to the professional industry. With significant people from the business present to spot and speak to the upcoming talent, BG builds a bridge between those two worlds to make it easier to connect.

History

In 2005, a group of people in The Netherlands felt it was hard to get in contact with film students from other schools in the country. They were really curious about what other students were making and so they came up with InDeMaak (freely translated: InProgress), a monthly Dutch Student Film Festival. It became a success: great films, talented students, enthusiastic audiences and a lot of beer.

A couple of years later it is time to take one step beyond: to cross borders and connect the European students with an online community and real life events. A platform to get inspired by great films and interesting new filmmakers and maybe even more importantly: get in touch!
